Task  7

Cooking and eat a meal using green energy

For this task we have done different things. We have cooked in a

  • Dutch Oven: iron pot for cooking in the fire.
  • Bush Cooker: the food is cooked on wood and woodgas.
  • Solar Cooker: an isolated box with glass lid, the whole box is heated up by solar energy.

Task 6

5 ideas to make our scout centre

greener

Solar panels

At buitenzorg are a lot of buildings with roofs with a big surface.

This surface can be used to put solar panels on. The total surface

of all the roofs at buitenzorg is 623,8 square meters.

An average of 1square meter solar panel liver 850 watts per year.

Throughout Buitenzorg it delivers 530230 watts per year. This

energy can be useful for different things. First, the energy as

electrical energy used in place of

electrical energy from power plants that

generate energy with polluting methods

such as coal or nuclear generation.

Secondly, the energy used to heat water

for washing, showering, etc.

At this moment the roof of the ‘Blauwe

vogel huis’ has a bad quality. We have

the idea to put solar panels on the new

roof. The picture shows a prototype.

Rain barrel

The scout gardener of

Buitenzorg always use a

wateringcan for watering the

flowers. We want to give here

a good Rain barrel. With this

barrel she can recycle the

rainwater. The picture shows

a prototype.

Subcamp recycle station

At this moment we have a recycle station at Buitenzorg. This is a

place were the scouts can bring there paper, glass and other

rubbish. We think it will be a good idea to make subcamp recycle

stations. On each junction between subcamps we want to make a

little recycle station. We want to motivate the scouts to recycle

their rubbish. With this recycle

station we can recycle things like

paper, cardboard, rubbish etc. We

use such things a second or a

third time, so we prevent with this

recycle centre that trash en

rubbish coming in the nature. The

picture shows a prototype

Earth-heat

By Earth-heat is a long pipe entered the earth, and water runs

down, the water under the ground will heat up by the heat from

the earth, and then the water runs by another tube to the top.

Then you have hot water, wich you don’t have to heat with

electricity anymore. If we build an Earth-heater at buitenzorg, we

can create hot water for the showers at a green way.

Grease pit

At Buitenzorg a

lot of people

don’t know were

to put their

dishwater, so the

throw it away in

the bush. You can see this at the left picture. They are not allowed

to dig a hole so we introduce the Grease pit. The picture shows a

prototype.

Task 6 Future Næsby

July 29, 2009 by
  1. We can plant plants on the roofs around the centre. It isolates, makes O2 and sucks water, so less water goes into the sewer and we don’t need new rainwater pipes less often, and there by reduce the use of chemicals for production.
  2. Rain water in the toilets instead of drinking water, so we save water and chemicals to rinse the water.
  3. Place more solar panels on the building (we have some already) so we can save the use of fossil fuels.
  4. Geothermal heat, to save the use of energy to heat up the houses.
  5. Get a centre car (and tractor) that’s drives on hydrogen, bio ethanol or solar energy.
  6. Buy a big wind mill so we can produce our own electricity – maybe enough for some of the houses in the nearby village.
